Middlebury Lasses Fail Fancy Plan To Sail As Dogs
Middlebury College seniors Suzanne Pineau and Hilde Lehmann sought dog passage to Europe via a shipboard kennel claiming dogs pay 50 dollars and could travel with dog suits. United States Lines traffic manager Vincent Love rejected the idea saying it would unsettle ships and set a dangerous precedent. He urged travel as ordinary humans, noting handsome men from elite schools do not travel as dogs. The pair remain determined to find a cheaper route to Europe.
