Union Sets 3.07 Per Hour Minimum For Family Budget
The AFL-CIO revises the 1959 city workers family budget to require 123 dollars weekly or 6,418 annually for a modest family of four. It urges unions to push for higher pay to meet essentials, taxes, and a few amenities, with the typical factory worker earning 2.58 an hour start of 1965 and retail workers about 70.13 weekly. The report argues the four-person family remains standard despite debates on multiple earners and smaller households.
