Civil Defense predicted up to 750000 spectators. 900000 watched Apollo 17. Striking electrical workers voted to return to work after a new contract.
Australia and New Zealand filed suits in the International Court of Justice to stop France from conducting Pacific nuclear tests. The actions seek a ruling that atmospheric testing in the South Pacific violates international law and urge recognition of France as a主要 power not party to the 1960s Geneva test ban. France has carried out tests since 1958 southeast of Tahiti and has not commented beyond planned future tests. New Zealand warned it would use a naval ship if needed as a last resort.
