New Mapping Satellite Fails In Orbit

CAPE CANAVERAL Fla AP a Thor Able Star rocket failed to put the 355 pound Anna satellite into orbit after the second stage did not ignite. The Defense Department said telemetry showed the craft did not reach orbit and it would study radio signals to find the failure cause. The project aimed to map the globe with flashing xenon beacons to aid precise ground measurements.

Nuclear Sub Ship Collide in Pacific Off San Francisco

A nuclear-powered U S submarine due for commissioning collided with the freighter Hawaiian Citizen about 30 miles west of San Francisco near the Farallon Islands. Neither vessel was in serious danger and no injuries were reported. The 300 foot Permit and the 468 foot Mat son Hawaiian Citizen were involved. Cause of the collision was not immediately known.

193 Workers Back on Jobs At Ben Mont Papers

The Ben Mont Papers union and management say the production force is nearly back to pre strike levels. Of 208 workers involved, 193 return with 74 salaried employees laid off at the end of the strike also back. Hourly workers are being recalled, with a 10 day window to report.
