Shelter for battered wives gains traction in Boston area
In Boston many victims of domestic abuse come from diverse backgrounds. Hospitals and city officials note rising awareness as Transition House in Cambridge expands from a single home in 1976 to a larger facility with volunteers. Legislation to fund shelters faces committee review and budget hurdles, while police and courts show hesitation in pursuing charges. Local advocates, including Betsy Warrior and Susan Flint, stress urgent need for safe housing, legal protections, and ongoing public support.
