Israel offers Arabs olive branch of peace and warning
In a televised Arabic address from Jerusalem Foreign Minister Abba Eban urged peace with Egypt and the Arab world while Defense Minister Moshe Dayan warned of war if aggression continues. A heavy parade accompanied by a high altitude air display marked Israel’s 150th anniversary observances as a Bell helicopter landed questions arose about threats from Arab groups. Dayan stressed the display was for deterrence and peace efforts, not provocation.

Barbiturate overdose blamed for two teen deaths
Two 17 year olds Elizabeth Howlett and James Nichols were found dead in The Tubs area of North Pownal with barbiturate traces. Dr. Lawrence Harrin, top medical examiner, says overdose caused the deaths but Deputy State's Attorney Raymond Bolton will await his report to decide exact cause. Police found no foul play. Betsy Howlett and Nichols had been missing from Bennington and White River Junction since mid April. Nichols had run away from the Depot program and an ongoing juvenile matter. Howlett had transferred schools after a January graduation and had past incidents with a heroin dealer.
