Gov Davis will keep a firm grip on staffing as he aims to hold permanent positions at the January level, after freezing 877 new state jobs. Social Welfare Commissioner Wackerman asked for 40 to 45 new hires, but some posts may be abolished to reduce headcount.
Davis defends $8.3 million deficit projection
Gov. Davis rebutted Sen. Leo O'Brien's charges that the eight point three million deficit projection is phoney. He presented Budget and Management figures showing an extra hundred thousand dollar deficit due to a constitutional convention appropriation.
