Vermont Governor veto blocks straight-party ballot reform
Secretary of State Richard C. Thomas criticized Gov. Thomas Salmon's veto of a bill ending straight party voting on general election ballots. He said the veto was partisan, while Salmon argued the measure would depress turnout and favor incumbents and high-profile candidates. The bill would have shown candidates once under each office, removing party-only listings. The ruling in Britain on rape law was included but not central to the Vermont summary.
