Chief Fox Eyes Two Lieutenants Over Assistant Chief

Police committee chairman Charles Bodine said last night that Chief William H. Fox has recommended two lieutenants be appointed for day and night duty instead of an assistant chief. They would receive a weekly $10 pay increase over patrolman wages. The choice of lieutenants will be made at the department’s regular meeting. Fox’s proposal was referred to Bodine’s committee.

Trustees Award Contract For New Fire Truck

Village trustees awarded bids for a new Maxim fire truck, a Wilson Ford dump truck, and a Bobcat front end loader. Maxim won the fire truck bid at 23941, beating Mack Trucks. the dump truck went to Wilson Ford at 5165 and the loader at 5975. Water Project Bids Are Opened In Boston

Kidder Peabody & Co of Boston won $310000 in bonds for the Bolles Brook water project at 11 this morning with a 4.1 percent low interest bid and a $1621.30 premium customer funds used for printing and advertising bonds. Other bids included New England Merchants National Bank 4.2 and White Weld & Co 4.5. County officials expect bids for pipeline laying settling reservoir construction and an intake and chlorine building at the courthouse Saturday at 2 p.m. The project is split into three parts with bids being accepted on each.

Pope to Pray at Fatima Shrine for End of Vietnam War

Berlin N Y voters rejected the district’s first budget over one million dollars noting a near 20 percent tax rise due to lack of state aid.
