Finch Delays Order On Welfare Probes
Washington UPI reports the Nixon administration halted a Johnson era plan to skip early investigations for welfare applicants. HEW Secretary Robert H. Finch, in Oklahoma, said a new welfare system would be in place by 1972, influenced by a Supreme Court ruling on residency. The change would start with affidavits and end prior checks if a 3 percent ineligibility rate is found.
