Red China and U.S. Denounced Soviets Observe May Day

Moscow reported a show of strength as 70 missiles rumbled through Red Square during May Day ceremonies. Education Chief Urges Experimentation in Teaching

Vermont education chief Dr. Richard A. Gibboney urged experimentation and a people centered approach in teaching during a Saturday talk in Bennington. He highlighted federal funding as shifting money toward teaching and noted the Swanton Highgate religious center proposal as an example of innovative, test case education plans. He criticized the emphasis on bricks and hardware and stressed action centers as Vermont’s top strategy, while lamenting a 1967 cut of 167000 for an action center in the state budget.

Midwest Tornado Toll Surges With Dozens Dead Across States

National Guardsmen labored to clear rubble after deadly tornadoes swept Iowa Minnesota and Wisconsin killing at least 16 and injuring about 100. In Duluth a 1 000 crowd watched giant waves drown three brothers and a rescuer. Coast Guardsman Edward Culbertson drowned while aiding the search.

Picket protest at Cuban Pavilion near U S border

Cuban refugees led by St Rose and Russell Sage College staff picketed the Champlain border station to protest Expo 67 in Montreal. Dr Yolanda Ortal said motorists supported their stance and some planned to skip the Cuban Pavilion, while others said the exhibit was propaganda.
