Connally to Face Bribery Trial Over Milk Fund Case
Former Treasury Secretary John Connally goes on trial in Washington on bribery charges linked to the milk fund scheme. Prosecutors allege $10,000 in cash from AMPI was paid for boosting federal price supports for raw milk in 1971, part of a broader Watergate era action. Witness Jake Jacobsen pled guilty to related counts and is expected to testify. Connally contends the money was for legitimate political purposes. The case could bring one of the final Watergate court actions, with Connally facing up to 19 years and a $50,000 fine if convicted. The trial, before Judge George Hart, may last two to three weeks.

Eric Cameron Smith, a 30 year old American Hindu mystic from Studio City California, arrived at Kennedy Airport after a 23 day sit in at New Delhi airport. He left India due to lack of visa support and medical infection, saying he would be happier in India and would return only if visa issues were resolved. He was escorted by an Indian immigration guard and a doctor, while U.S. officials arranged his passport and he expressed no violence, citing devotion to God.
