Shaftsbury debates tax inequities and town meeting
Dr Barth VanderEls proposed three plans to correct inequities in Shaftsbury property assessments. A special town meeting was set for April 6 to discuss hiring outside professionals, a tax stabilization pact with farmers, and reducing recent sales to 1959 levels to rebalance taxes. The plan would require voter approvals and a two thirds vote for contracts.
