Index Systems Takes On Word Processing Giants
A young company, Index Systems of Cambridge, challenges IBM’s WP dominance with its Documate automated word processor system. The unit, backed by Rand, IBM, RCA, Boeing and others, promises 17 million characters of storage, 249 lines per minute, and models priced from 820,000 to 8200,000 with leasing options. Portfolio management software aims at a $125 million market with $50 million in annual maintenance.

Way found to lick common cold but costly
Stanford scientist and a British team report a potential preventive using interferon alpha purified from white blood cells. In tests at Salisbury, 18 volunteers received nasal spray and four days of increasing doses, completely preventing cold symptoms, while 13 of 16 control subjects developed infections. Costly production and impractical doses limit current use, but researchers expect future dose reductions and easier administration.
