Berkshire Park Move as NY Developer Buys Camp Onota

New York developer Samuel Seigel has bought the 50 acre Camp Onota tract in Pittsfield planning an 80 home upper income neighborhood starting this summer. City leaders had sought the site as a city park since 1974 but failed to reach the two thirds vote needed for the city to pay most of the price. The Lenox Library elm, up to 300 years old, fell to Dutch elm disease yesterday, ending a tree with historic ties to the 1815 library. The other twin elm was removed in 1951.
