New England Music Festival demonstrates mature artistry from youth

The festival opened with Benjamin Zander leading the orchestra in Berlioz and Elgar works, then moved to a serene Bach-Mozart transcription and Nimrod variation. A massive chorus under Carl Druba delivered Kyrie and Gloria and Pinkham and Brahms pieces, ending with Wheat’s Stonehenge Symphony evoking mystery and ritual. The 80 high schools’ ensembles proved their discipline and depth in the 25th annual event.
