Reds reject Messersmith offer amid spring delay cheers
The Cincinnati Reds turned down an offer to sign Andy Messersmith for about 1.5 million as the Los Angeles Dodgers free agent proposal sparked no deal. Braves manager Dave Bristol credited spring-start delay with improved team unity, while other notes include Jim Hunter shifted to a four day rotation for the Yankees and Thurman Munson joining the team.

Rozelle credits rule for Steelers' success
NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle defended the Rozelle Rule amid a suit by Joe Kapp, saying the rule keeps balance by compensating a team when a star player leaves. He cited Pittsburgh's rise from one win to two-time champions, attributing the draft and Rozelle Rule as key to pro football's popularity. The discussion referenced a napkin contract for John Brodie and compensation across the league.
