Vermont bill delays utility rate hike to extend PSB review
Vermont House considers a bill to delay the New England Telephone rate increase from six months to a full year before the Public Service Board can authorize higher charges. The measure would apply to a 38 percent rise in basic charges and a 15 percent increase in in-state long distance calls, set to take effect April 15 after filing. A public hearing is planned at the State House, with testimony from company counsel John Carbine, PSB counsel Robert Mello, and Vermont Public Interest Research Group attorney Caroline Nickerson.
