Series of Fires Hit Wilmington
A rash of fires in Wilmington kept the fire department busy this week. Beginning Saturday at Cross's Trailer Park on VT 100 the small trailer was destroyed. The Nearby Other Way Restaurant saw a blaze caused by a tossed smoking mattress near the exterior wall. Monday morning prompted a chimney fire at Harry Crawford's home with smoke but no major damage. The week’s worst fire damaged the kitchen at William Brown's South Main Street house, started by a faulty electrical appliance short. Miss Sandra Catrone sensed smoke and alerted occupants. Brown plans reconstruction of the colonial after the blaze.

Village Gallery Show Highlights Webb Healy Rippon Paintings
In Manchester the Village Gallery hosts Virginia Webb Arthur Healy and Mildred Rippon with oils watercolors and drawings. Webb’s portraits The Black Hat and Neighbors show painterly rhythm beyond camera directness while Garden Wall and Winter Cathedral display bold light and texture. Healy’s watercolors lack clarity but reveal a steadier pencil line in Connemara Mountains and First Crows. Rippon’s landscapes burst with color and varied textures, notably Spring is Stirring Nature's Climax and October Snow Squall.
