Danby Marble Selected for JFK Memorial at Arlington
Vermont marble from Danby and Danby Imperial quarry is chosen for the JFK graveside memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. The 70 ton monument will measure 36 by 8 feet 6 inches at the top with a presidential seal carved in relief. Construction by Aberthaw Co. aims for completion by November 22.

It's Official April 26 Set For Unification Vote
The town votes April 26 on adopting a new charter to merge the town, three villages, and one fire district into a single government. If Bennington Village also approves, North Bennington Old Bennington and the rural fire district will face merger votes. A series of public information meetings begin Monday at 7 30 pm at Bennington Elementary School with a panel including Arthur D Taylor and several attorneys and officials. Information copies of the unification act will be available at Attorney Williams's Elm Street office and at meetings. Polling hours and mechanics, including one polling place at the school and absentee ballots, will be set by selectmen and Town Counsel Barber.

Vermont commissioner of development Elbert F. Moulton says national industries are shifting from metropolitan areas to Vermont for efficiency and returns. With new highways, Vermont can reach Philadelphia New York and Baltimore and closer Canadian markets. Manufacturing is around 300 million dollars yearly versus 150 160 million for tourism.
