March to Montgomery Opens Second Day in Subfreezing Start
Dr Martin Luther King Jr and about 300 civil rights marchers moved along Jefferson Davis Highway on the second leg toward Montgomery Alabama. The marchers began at 9 am EST after a cold night in a pasture and faced a federal order limiting participation to 300 at a time on narrow US 80. King slept in a bedroll and spoke of eventual reentry to the main march as it proceeds toward four lanes near Montgomery.

Sixth Bomb Found In Birmingham
A sixth time bomb was found in the heart of the Negro community in Birmingham. Mayor Boutwell vowed no effort would be spared to identify the attackers. Mortician Ernest Poole found a bomb behind a panel truck near his funeral home. An Army crew disarmed it as six bombs were removed by military teams over the weekend. Other bombs were found near a Catholic church, a parsonage, an attorney’s home, another funeral home, and a high school, each packed with dynamite and a clock. Poole alerted police after discovering the device at about 8:30 a.m. EST.

SAIGON reports U S military HQ said South Vietnamese troops used an American tear gas that causes nausea against Viet Cong. Eight F105s flew recon over North Viet Nam. one plane downed but crew rescued. Gas described as non lethal, mitigates enemy fighting ability without civilian harm.
