Arsonist Sets Hotel Fire Kills 20 In Seattle
A man set flammable liquid in the Ozark Hotel lobby early Friday, touching off a five story blaze that killed 20 residents and injured 16, including two firefighters. Beating of Vermont woman by man posing as census taker
Shaftsbury district census chief Joan Wingate asked the FBI to probe the Thursday attack on Mrs. Mable MacJarrett in Burlington. A man 30 to 40 years old claimed to be a census taker, beat her with his hands and a hammer, then fled with a small cash sum. Wingate warned Vermont residents that census takers will wear red white and blue cards with the seal and signature. The official census date remains April 1 and about 90 percent of 536 Vermonters to serve are women.
