In Concord New Hampshire Senator Eugene McCarthy hailed a slim loss that nonetheless challenged Vietnam policy and unsettled Democrats. Richard Nixon declared his Republican win would push him toward a larger victory in November and solidified his stance as the leading GOP presidential contender. Nixon captured about 80 percent of the vote.
