Vermont Receives $131 020 in Title I Grants for 1972

The Vermont Department of Education reports the state has been awarded 131 020 dollars in federal Title I Part 5B funds for Fiscal Year 1972, nearly doubling the 58 099 dollars allocated in 1971. The increase stems from a larger national Title I appropriation, not Vermont’s changed status. Title I assists state and local agencies to aid educationally deprived youth. Part A funds fund special projects and improvements, while Part B grants target districts with urgent needs and adequate tax effort. Approximately 100 Vermont districts rank above the state average in tax effort index.
