New concepts in PE introduced in Vermont schools
Jan McCleery of Bennington a professor at Vermont College was state coordinator of last week's Physical Education Week in Vermont as proclaimed by Gov Thomas Salmon. She led a project to acquaint Vermonters with new physical education programs replacing old gym classes. The programs aim to build positive self image and mental health, with all children included and equipped. Early instruction targets perceptual motor lag and older students receive skills training useful in adulthood. Prof McCleery directs the Physical Education Public Information Project for the American Alliance for Health Physical Education and Recreation and is a NEA affiliate.
