Vermont Leaders Meet Ginsburg Over Rutland Rail Still Unclear
Gov. F. Ray Keyser and Public Service Commissioner John Paterson met in New York with William S. Ginsburg, Rutland Railway president, after Florida talks. State opposes complete abandonment of the line at ICC hearings in Rutland March 22 but will not reveal which sections to keep. A pro-purchase group led by Rep. John Masterton may file to buy the railroad. Keyser endorses one idea to transfer most Vermont service to three other railroads including Central Vermont, Delaware and Hudson, and Boston and Maine. The Public Service Board postponed again a Citizens Utilities petition at Newport to amend its contract for sub transmission with VELCO, reconvening April 10. Citizens seeks compensation for delivering energy from Highgate to Newport about 40 miles away.
