North Vietnamese troops guarding Sepone Laos reported heavy antiaircraft missiles and at least 50 tanks as 2,000 South Vietnamese troops moved within three miles. U.S. airpower supported the assault amid 1,000 American reinforcements and ongoing helicopter losses.
Sunny and warmer today with highs in the upper 30s as clouds increase tonight bringing a light snow chance. Tomorrow remains cloudy with a snow chance and temperatures in the 30s. Lows tonight and tomorrow run in the 20s.
Washington reports unemployment fell from 6.0 to 5.8 percent as teens and part time workers drove the decline. Wholesale prices jumped nine tenths of a percent the biggest rise since 1953, signaling inflation remains a concern even as some job seekers see improvements. United Nations Secretary General Thant urged a further extension of the Middle East cease fire, but Cairo's Al Ahram reported Egypt will not accept extension. Egypt insists Israel withdraw from occupied Arab lands, while Israel signals openness to a negotiated solution and direct talks with Egypt.
