Third New England hog cholera herd to be destroyed
The USDA will humanely destroy about 200 hogs in a southeastern Massachusetts herd within a few days. This follows the destruction of 14 infected pigs in North Dartmouth and a nearby Rhode Island herd of about 2,000 hogs in Tiverton. Pork scraps from infected hogs pose no human health risk. Farmers are reimbursed at roughly 50 cents per pound. Authorities seek reports of any sick hogs in the region.
