Feed grain program outlined for Vermont farmers in 1971
About 3,700 Vermont farmers can join the 1971 voluntary feed grain program, per ASCS chairman John W. Clark. Participants set aside 20 percent of feed grain base or 75 percent of wheat allotment, then can use remaining cropland as they wish. The new system removes fixed allotment constraints and may attract corn silage growers. Last year 430 farmers diverted 4,890 acres, receiving $174,796 in payments. Farmers should visit their county ASCS office after March 1 to file intent. final participation deadline is April 9, 1971.
