Drug use among Chittenden youths examined in 1969 study
Chittenden County State's Attorney Patrick Leahy and University of Vermont instructor Ronald Steffenhagen flag a 1969 survey of over 3000 county high school students showing more than 7 percent urban and 5 percent rural students admitted marijuana use. They warn the issue stems from student emotional instability and urge education and community mental health as solutions over enforcement. The piece also notes Fraternal Order of Eagles meetings and a food rummage sale at the Eagles rooms on March 6 7 and 2 p.m.
