Arlington Town Meeting Preview Sees Little Dissent

Arlington residents gathered for the annual pre town meeting to review 23 articles. Item 20 proposes dissolving the fire and light district to include the whole town, with most fire company members favoring dissolution and asset transfer. Article 21 seeks 600 to cover Evergreen Cemetery vandalism costs, debated as taxpayers not to pay. Revenue sharing items totaling 29,000 were explained by selectmen, with concerns about unused funds going to a savings account. Other articles include 4500 for a part time selectmen secretary and 1650 for street signs, both debated for necessity and impact. The Bennington Opportunity Council request of 2215 prompted discussion on social services without opposition.

Falls gas dealers report shorter lines under the new state odd-even plan though complaints persist about more cars showing up on odd number days. Some stations have received February gas allocations early while others await this week, and hours shifts announced two weeks ago are no longer in effect. Local fliers about schedules caused extra traffic, prompting dealers to plan another meeting next week to assess the change.
