Nixon seeks rural voters for new American revolution

President Nixon toured Des Moines to push a expanded 1.1 billion rural development plan under a special revenue sharing scheme. Bomb Blasts U S Capitol. West Front Cracks

A ground floor explosion at the U S Capitol in Washington damaged the west front and opened a serious crack in the weakened wall near the Great Rotunda. No injuries were reported, and President Nixon called the act shocking while FBI and other investigators searched the site.

Bennington Town Meeting set for district selectmen vote

Bennington voters totaling about 8000 will elect five men to the expanded six member board. Ten candidates, five Republicans and five Democrats, vie for two year and one year terms across districts 31 32 and 33. Polls open 10 am to 7 pm with results after absentee count.

Ex-selectman arraigned on theft charge in Vermont

Alwin Amadon, 45, of Bondville, former Winhall selectman, was arraigned in Bennington District Court on grand larceny over $100 for stealing sand and salt from the town during January and February 1969. He pleaded not guilty, released on his own recognizance on $500 bail. State's Attorney Neil S. Moss cited three inquests and sworn witnesses, noting irregularities pointed out by town officials.

Liechtenstein votes against women’s suffrage by close margin

In Vaduz the all male electorate rejected a constitutional amendment to grant women national voting and parliamentary rights by 1897 to 1817 after heavy turnout. Prince Franz Josef II supported the proposal and turnout exceeded 82 percent with about 3714 ballots cast.

Assigned risk policy rate surge in New York

Albany and Buffalo show wide rate hikes under the states Automobile Insurance Plan effective now for new and renewing policies after April 14.
