No go areas threaten calm in Londonderry

In Londonderry Protestant paramilitary leaders of the Ulster Defence Association plotted a weekend blockade campaign to establish no go zones around Catholic Bayside and Creggan areas. They pledged to deny essential services and warned security forces. The TRA Provisional wing proposed an all Ireland federation with parliaments for four provinces including Ulster.

Truman falls and is hospitalized after fall at home

Former President Harry Truman, 88, was briefly hospitalized in Kansas City after a fall at his Independence home. Doctors said no bones were broken and tests were negative. He was treated at Research Hospital and released within an hour after a back pain prompted care.

Senate seeks 20 percent Social Security benefit increase

Gandhi and Bhutto begin talks for a new beginning in summit

Moon astronaut Irwin forms evangelistic group with Graham

SPACE CENTER Houston UPI James B Irwin, 42, plans to retire from NASA in August to devote time to spreading the gospel. He said he will form his own evangelistic group and work with Dr Billy Graham when effective, recalling his moon voyage with David Scott and a felt sense of God's presence. He also retires as an Air Force colonel and aims to guide his worldwide ministry.
