Safety report links sporty cars to higher accident risk
Washington based Institute of Highway Safety analyzed insurance claims. Sports cars like AMC Javelin Mercury Cougar Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette showed highest claim frequencies per 100 insured vehicles. Lowest rates appeared in Pontiac Catalina Chevrolet Impala Caprice and Kingswood station wagon. Average damage payments were highest for Corvette Javelin Volkswagon 411 and Grand Prix, while Plymouth Satellite Bel Air and Kingswood wagons ranked lowest.
