NBA liberalizes hardship clause in draft to attract college talent
The NBA announced a hardship status plan adding a special September draft for players meeting financial or academic hardship criteria. Applicants must file by August 1, with appeals possible if denied. The rule, partly in response to ABA early signing, preserves college eligibility for others and shifts selection timing between September and the following March drafts.
