Circus Folks See Joy And Strain In Ring
The Sells and Gray Circus tours daily with a tight-knit crew. George Gifford of Vadera Beach Florida recalls the circus as a little vacation after his army retirement in 1940. Carmen Del Molino, 19, a high wire artist, has been in the business since memory. Bennington guests include visitors from Bridgeport Connecticut. Patrons praise the show though few new acts appear. The operating margin is lower than in the big days, says William J. English owner, yet gross receipts are higher than in the 1920s with a troupe just over 100 members.
