Ichthyologist Aims to Save Salton Sea Pupfish From Extinction
R W I Follett, an ichthyologist, urges protection for the Salton Sea Pupfish as invasive species threaten its survival. At the 47th annual meeting of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, Follett notes the fish is tiny, colorful, and unique to the region, with no commercial value but local cultural appeal. He proposes segregating a tributary or housing specimens in a small Salton Sea State Park aquarium to raise awareness and foster conservation.

Argentina’s jinxed whaling ship seeks sale amid scrap fate
The 630-foot factory ship built in Belfast in the 1950s remains a white elephant for Argentina. Rechristened Cruz del Sur after Emperon era changes, it failed to deploy for whales, changing hands from state oil monopoly YPF to cadet cruises, then to sale attempts as global whaling collapsed, possibly ending as scrap.
