SOUTH STRAFFORD Vermont Baptist Women announce their annual summer conference or House Party to be held Tuesday through Thursday at Gove Hill Conference Center. Guest speaker Mrs Donald N Thompson of Calais Maine leads sessions. she is president of American Baptist Women with a long record in church and community service. Others from area churches host a three day program with Bible study and prayer sessions and Sunday services.
The Rev. Dr. Arvel M. Steece of the First Congregational Church will be a delegate to the 17th annual meeting of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches at Bowling Green State University Ohio. More than 500 attendees expected with youth sessions for 300 plus. Lay speaker Tom Vandergriff of Arlington Texas to close with a testimonial on Christian commitment in public life. The gathering will discuss worship fellowship and guidance for local churches with several seminars and business sessions addressing fiscal and program goals for 1972.
The Retreat Singers present a multidenominational Jesus Festival at Mt Anthony Union High School athletic field Sunday at 3 p.m. Sponsored by the Greater Bennington Ministerial Association, the no charge program features Folk Song Life of Christ with ethnic folk songs hymns and modern tunes reworked into Christ centered ballads. The group weaves songs with dramatic readings written and arranged by the youths to depict the life and moods of the Lord.
Mrs Alvan Lawrence of Shaftsbury, former Bennington Council of Church Women United president, was elected vice president of the state CWU unit for the 1971 74 triennium at the 1971 assembly held recently at Woodstock Congregational Church.

The Rev. Robert L. Anderson of Rutland, ordained last Sunday at Grace Congregational Church in Manchester, will be guest minister at 11 a.m. Sunday in the First Congregational Church. He graduated from Andover Newton Theological School and has served churches in Auburn and Billerica Massachusetts and worked with a Christian ministry in the national parks.
The Vermont Tapwater Corporation formed in 1969 seeks to bring running water to low income Vermonters. A shallow well in Addison County marks its latest project as funds, mostly from church groups, total about 10000 so far. The group plans a $50000 fund drive to back government loans for broader water improvements while awaiting decisions from national church bodies. The Episcopal Diocese of Vermont helped seed the effort before the organization became independent last December. The Vacation Church School opens Monday, July 2, under the First United Methodist Church with a limited daily schedule and activities.
At the June meeting of the North Bennington Baptist Women's Fellowship a film titled Good News for the Poor was shown by program chair Mrs. Alfred Scott. The film depicted World Mission Campaign work aiding Africa and India through Baptist mission projects.
The National Council of Churches plans a fall conference on U S involvement in Vietnam with Catholic, Jewish and other observers. Aimed at $100,000 funding, the event seeks to examine racism, war damage, and national resource reallocation, and is expected between October and December.
