Israel proposed a prisoner exchange through the Red Cross to swap 4500 Egyptian prisoners for nine known Israeli soldiers held in Egypt. Brig Gen Shmuel Eyal said the plan would also release 9 generals 10 colonels and 300 other Egyptian officers from the Sinai six day war. Red Cross officials in Nicosia said the first exchange would occur Thursday at the Nicosia airport.

Bill Proposes Dairy Imports Sanitary Rules

A bill by Senator Gaylord Nelson would require foreign dairy farms and plants exporting to the United States to meet U.S. sanitary standards. Nelson notes American dairy operators must invest in new equipment to reach hospitallike cleanliness, asserting imports lack comparable controls and pose health risks. FDA findings cited include mites in cheddar from Canada and insect fragments in Yugoslavian products. In related updates, Israel reported 5,499 Arab prisoners, with 4,500 Egyptians, as efforts to locate missing Egyptians continued amid Sinai operations and Red Cross assurances for wounded evacuees.
