The 55th annual American Legion Vermont convention meets June 26 at North Country Union High School Newport for three days with a parade June 29 on Main Street Causeway. Notables include Senators Aiken and Stafford Rep Mallary Gov Salmon and Gov Jehn Burgess Allai Hadlai A fall guest speaker.
Attorney Matthew Katz of Burlington named by Gov. Salmon to head a Vermont task force on comprehensive election law reform. The panel will study laws and report by December 1, following Salmon veto of a House bill proposing reforms. Katz is a former legal aid attorney now with Latham Eastman and Tetlaff.
The Bennington Garden Club toured Mrs. Fabian Kunzelmann’s Mt. Anthony area grounds featuring fourteen maples and shaded planting of groundcovers and perennials. Members shared tips on maintenance and discussed a tribute to former president Mrs. T. Garry Buckley and the club’s sustained library fund from a Christmas boutique.
Mrs Hazzy Razzo of Westwood Massachusetts daughter of Barbara and Mason Razzo receives the juris doctor at Suffolk University June 10 commencement. President Thomas A Fulham confers the degree at the John B Hynes Veterans Auditorium Prudential Center Boston. She is Bennington High School graduate and SU law student member of the Student Bar Association.
Flower show at St. Peter's Parish Hall hosted by the Plain Dirt Gardeners featured entries judged in multiple classes from miniature bedside displays to centerpieces and indoor plants. Winners included Mrs. Stephen Lincoln, Mrs. Arthur Roberts, Mrs. Eugene Clark, and others with a post show vote tally and a luncheon.
Funeral services for Mrs Hugo Ermacora formerly Helen DeVito were held at St Francis de sales Church with the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial led by Rev John Hamilton. Attendees included members of the Board of Civil Authority and the Bennington County Deputy Sheriff's Department, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery following services.
