LONDON (UPI) Queen Elizabeth named Sir Laurence Olivier first actor to become a life peer, giving him a seat in the House of Lords for services to the theater. Richard Burton and David Frost were also honored, Burton as a CBE and Frost as an OBE. Olivier may adopt the name Lord Olivier and will continue directing Britain's national theater while starring in Guys and Dolls this fall.

Nixon Presses House Over Mortgage Aid Delays
President Nixon blasted the House for four months of inaction on his emergency mortgage bill. HUD Secretary George Romney said approving the measure could help more than 400,000 American families buy homes this year. The package includes 250 million for lending, 1.5 billion standby funds for nonprofit housing, and a plan to create a secondary mortgage market.

Good Idea But Not Too Smart Cliffwood Beach Fire
Richard Walsh built a 219 foot artificial bluff from 12 tons of scrap tires to curb beach erosion at his home in Cliffwood Beach New Jersey. It burned on May 27 requiring 150 firefighters from seven companies to bring under control. Walsh later paid a $50 fine in Madison Township Municipal Court for dumping without a permit and contaminating the beach.
