Bennington High School will award 74 diplomas at 8 30 p m Thursday night Principal Geoffrey Graham will present scholarships and awards John P Riddle chairs the board of trustees Dr John T Fey president of the University of Vermont will deliver the address Education in the Age of Science Music from the Bend i Band and Chorus under Paul J Williams Mrs Esther Kissling directs the chorus and the program includes two selections Onward Ye People and Jesu Joy of Man s Desiring with introductions and a recessional by the High School Band

Miss Dolores J. McDermott, BCHS graduate, won the Sprague Electric nursing scholarship of 400 dollars at class night. She also earned Stark Foundation 300 and Putnam Memorial Hospital 100 scholarships, ranks fourth in her BCHS class, and will enter Jeanne Mance School of Nursing in Burlington.

Harte Promoted to Major in Army Reserve Ceremony
John B. Harte, commander of the 453rd Quartermaster Corps in Bennington since 1950, is promoted to Major U S Army Reserve. The ceremony featured Major Jehle and Capt Perrotta as successors. Harte will await reassignment. He earned WWII battle stars for Normandy Brittany Central Europe Rhineland and is a local attorney and former legislator.
