Co op movement grows in Vermont food network
The spring nationwide boycott draws attention to Vermont co-ops built around buying clubs and community centers. In Brattleboro and Newfane co-ops share literature with meat pickets, while Adamant and Plainfield groups push cheaper goods and food stamps acceptance. The Plainfield center serves about 1,000 members, with 21.5 tons moved in a month at $25,200 total. Co ops expand into beekeeping and fertilizers, aiming to aid low income Vermonters and counter rising prices amid a broader movement to reclaim community control.

Explorer 49 advances on last planned lunar mission
Explorer 49, a small unmanned radio astronomy satellite, set a straight course for the moon on the final planned lunar mission. The five day, quarter million mile journey aims to study low frequency radio noise from the Milky Way and beyond, using the moon as a shield against earth noise. Ground controllers planned only a minor midcourse correction, with four long antennas deployed in lunar orbit to form a giant sky instrument.
