Debate Over Modernizing Old Bennington Streets
In Old Bennington a split persists over repairing streets with federal and state funds to widen Monument Avenue and other sections or to keep widths and curb to preserve character. Trustees push for broader projects. opponents led by Arthur Roberts seek minimal changes to preserve esthetics and avoid extra congestion and signage. A special Village Meeting will decide whether to pursue outside funding or rely on smaller, local repairs, balancing cost, historic values, and future traffic needs.
