Academic Reorganizations at UVM Through the Years
The University of Vermont has undergone multiple formal reorganizations since 1884, with major shifts in 1911, 1945, and 1967. The booklet The Organization of the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College traces origins from 1791, noting early liberal arts instruction, 1804 medical lectures, 1822 full medical course, and early engineering work making UVM a pioneer among land grant institutions. The Vermont Agricultural College merged with UVM after funding difficulties in 1865, leading to added agricultural and scientific departments and subsequent reorganizations into colleges in 1911 with four divisions: Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture, and Medicine.

Fifth grader asks for a big book of bekenies and more
A Nashville note shows a Alabama fifth grader writing Gov. Winfield Tunn requesting a large book of diverse girls in bekenies, plus a portrait of the governor and wife, state pictures, Daniel Boone, a TV guide, a set of beans, and a universal book of governors, presidents, and motorcycles. The letter reveals quirky curiosity amid historic university reorganizations from 1914 to 1967 across Agriculture, Home Economics, Technology, Education and Nursing, and Allied Health.
