Astronaut Edward Givens Killed in Texas Crash
In Pearland near the Manned Spacecraft Center an early morning crash on a sharp curve killed Air Force Maj. Edward G. Givens, 37, a member of the Apollo support team. Two other officers, Lt. Col. Francis Dillorto and Maj. S. Hall, were injured. Dillorto was critical with hip and rib fractures. Hall was in fair condition with a skull fracture. The crash was blamed on a bird strike. Givens, a Quanah native, was married to Ada Eva Mauss and left behind three children Catherine, 4, Edward G., 3, and Diana, 2 months.
