Kent State trial hears who fired first
In a $48 million Kent State civil trial Harry Montgomery testified he saw a Guardsman fire the first shot with a .45 pistol on May 4, 1970, and that others followed with rifles. Defense countered with a 1970 FBI statement. Montgomery could not confirm the hand holds the pistol. Sgt. Myron Pryor denied firing. FBI records showed the weapon was not fired. Separately, New England added 26,500 jobs in April, but employment remained 108,500 below April 1974.
