Murder Charge Filed In Bogalusa Slaying
United Press International reports a 41-year-old Ernest R. McElveen of Bogalusa was charged with murder for the night ride killing of Deputy O'Neil Moore in Washington Parish near Bogalusa Louisiana. Deputy Creed Rogers was wounded as the attackers fled in a pickup. Police traced the truck to Tyler Town where McElveen was arrested in Ty Town Mississippi. He denied involvement and refused extradition. The case marks one of the first Black deputies in the parish.

House Bars New Look At Tax Bill
The Vermont House blocked a proposed 350000 windfall tax on insurance premiums by 117 to 107 roll call after Wednesday’s initial 125 to 102 approval. The Senate sent two other bills to the House with final approval Thursday.
