Harris Trial Shocks Court Hearst Offers Testimony
In Los Angeles the Harris trial neared its end as Patricia Hearst volunteered to testify against William and Emily Harris and the defense cried of a deal. The Harrises rested without a defense, arguing the prosecution's case was flimsy and marred by reversible errors. Closing arguments and jury submission loom next week.

Limitations saves lobbyist in illegal contribution case
Former Gulf Oil lobbyist Claude C. Wild Jr. was acquitted of making an illegal $5,000 campaign contribution to Senator Daniel K. Inouye. Judge Joseph C. Waddy ruled the evidence failed to prove the crime occurred within the three year window from the indictment. Wild, who admitted the contribution, said he would consider life after the trial and expressed a desire to be a law abiding citizen.
