Weicker details his role in Gray and Watergate demise
Washington (UPI) Senator Lowell P. Weicker Jr. says President Nixon did not move to fire acting FBI director L. Patrick Gray after Gray destroyed documents. Weicker claims he leaked the story to reporters to force Gray from his post, while Ehrlichman testifies Nixon pressed for information on Ellsberg, helping spur the plumbers. Ellsberg's Pentagon file case heads to Supreme Court after publication battles.

Ellsberg denies turning Pentagon Papers to Soviets
Daniel Ellsberg told CBS from Los Angeles that Ehrlichman’s claim of his Pentagon Papers being given to the Soviet Embassy is slanderous and false. He cited strong evidence that no White House official believed the charge and noted the papers were readable in the New York Times at ten cents a day. Ellsberg also challenged Ehrlichman’s assertion of a White House probe tied to his in law’s Hoover connection, saying the FBI interviewed Marx and he cooperated, while the break-in sought to damage his image.

Pygmy civilization unearthed in Venezuela skeleton find
Venezuelan archaeologist Adrian Lucena Goyo reports discovery near Bolivar square in Quibor of about 2 000 pygmy skeletons with shell necklaces and ceramic jars. Carbon 14 dating places the remains around 1 000 years old. The find suggests a pygmy Indian culture once lived in the area. In London, Britain’s Matthews chain says it will train women as meat cutters due to a shortage of male trainees.
